As we wind down to the very close end of the semester, we are at the point where we, as the #Netnarr class, would be presenting at Kean University: Research Days. Due to the unfortunate current circumstances of COVID-19, the school unfortunately could not host the events in person. Even with that being the case, presenter were able to submit short videos to showcase their work! Below is our #Netnarr at Kean University Research Days, 2020! Big thanks to Dr. Zamora and Professor Levine on creating such a cool video!
Alongside the video is a Data Detox Kit that is meant to serve as a type of solution to the question posed within the #Netnarr video. So in honor of of the Data Detox Kit, this blog is dedicated to going through the kit and trying to incorporate the tips provided to help secure my data! I am formatting my blog in a way to hit each question posed by Dr. Zamora in her log blog post.
What steps have you incorporated?
One step that I have recently been incorporating into shifting my setting in securing my data is locking ALL of my data doors. In this portion of the kids, it gives a simple but effective breakdown of how and why the strength of your online passwords is vital. Speaking for my own self, my shopping, bill paying, school related programs, and subscriptions are all done online (like most people living in the 21st century). And just like many, I get lost in the hub bub of keeping track of so many passwords. It obviously so convenient. This where the no nos kick in.. The Detox Kit advises:

Quiet honestly I never took my passwords so seriously. I figured, “Who really acres about hacking my info?”, and that is where the issues lies. If this Detox Kit was presented to me before this course, I probably would have ignored it, even with how informative it is. I have now go to the extent of checking all of my digital accounts to give each one a secure pass code. That’s one small step for Patricia, one giant leap for secure data!
What aspects of these recommendations do you feel are worthwhile moving forward?
The aspects of these recommendations I feel worthwhile moving forward is the DATA DETOX X YOUTH kit. Like WOW! This portion of the kit is so user friendly to the youth and interactive. I will be having my younger cousin (who will be turning 11 years old in June) take a look at this activity packet. As we are pretty much stuck in the house these days, I notice that he stuck on so many devices. This kit will really be a nice crash course/introduction into data security.
What concerns and considerations remain after exploring these recommendations for privacy, security, and well being on the open web?
My main concerns and considerations that remain after exploring these recommendations is not continuing on with this conversation. Lets not just make this a discussion for the moment, but a topic to be talk about all the time. I know this type of topic can be confusing and down right scary, but when will be the perfect time to have it?
